Wake Forest had the opportunity to open the season against one of the best teams in the country and it did not go so well. They dropped their opening game 37-13 to Clemson. The Demon Deacons are coming off an 8-5 season and they were 4-4 in ACC play. In their loss to Clemson, it got ugly early. They were down 27-0 at halftime and 37-3 after the third quarter. Sam Hartman threw for 182 yards while Taylor Morin caught nine passes for 93 yards and a touchdown. Christian Beal-Smith led the rushing attack with just 29 yards on nine carries.

This will be the first game of the season for NC State. The Wolfpack were just 4-8 last season and just 1-7 in the ACC. Last season the Wolfpack really struggled on offense, finishing 11th in the conference in total yardage and 12th in scoring. The Wolfpack didn’t score more than 26 points in any of their last eight games. This season they hope to turn it around with a young group of running backs and veteran receivers returning.

Wake does have the advantage of having played a game but is it really an advantage when you get physically pounded. NC State will be better than they were last season and here is a chance for them to start the season out on the right foot.
