This is 10* PLAY on Clemson.
Iowa State finished 7-5, while Clemson was 9-3.
The Cyclones defeated TCU 48-14 in their last game, while Clemson beat South Carolina 30-0.
Here's an interesting fact, believe it or not, this is the first time these teams have ever faced each other.
The oddsmakers have these teams really evenly matched here, but I think this is a game that favors Clemson.
With Breece Hall off to the NFL for the Cyclones, quarterback Brock Purdy will have to carry the load fo Iowa State.
Purdy finished by completing a career best 73 percent of his passesl, but with such a big piece of the offense suddenly missing, I think chemistry will be an issue here for Purdy.
Defensively, Will McDonald IV was fantastic for the Cyclones. He led the BIG 12 in sacks with 11.5 and he's unquestionably the best pure pass rusher in the conference.
But Clemson will have its starting QB under center today, and I think he'll lead the Tigers to a victory.
Now, DJ Uiagalelei was supposed to be a quarterback capable of carrying his team to a national title, but he's had an up and down season. That said, his team is healthy and his defense has been great this year.
Sophomore defensive lineman Myles Murhpy led the Tigers with eight sacks. Iowa State though has had issues with pass protection this season, so without Breece Hall in the line-up, this makes Iowa State extremely one-dimensional on the offensive side of the ball.
Both teams were supposed to do a lot better than they did this year. It's a really similar story line. Iowa State had Big 12 title hopes, instead it finished with a pedestrian 7-5 record.
Same thing for Clemson, as it was supposed to continue its dominance of the ACC and win another conference crown, but the Tigers weren't even able to win their own division for the first time since 2014.
So I think the bottom line here is, which team wants to be here more? And I think the answer is Clemson.
As I said, without Hall in the line-up, I think that Iowa State's offense will stall.
And with the young talent on defense for Clemson, I also think the Cyclones will have a hard time keeping Brock Purdy in the pocket and on his feet today.
So that's my official call, I'm rolling with CLEMSON in this year's CHEEZ-IT BOWL.
Good luck, NP
