Total: 8.50 | -109.00 Over
Result: Loss
This is a 9* TOP NL TUESDAY TOTAL on teh OVER Rockies/D-Backs.
Colorado has been winning games, and it's been doing it with great pitching. The Rockies have won six of their last seven. They've seen the total go UNDER now in eight straight.
That said, they've faced some pretty weak competition over those last eight games, including Pittsburgh and St. Louis, two teams that are struggling mightily this season to plate runs.
Arizona won't be lacking for motivation here after three straight losses, most recently a 5-2 setback here to the Giants on the 4th.
The Rockies go with Jon Gray, who is 5-6 with a 3.89 ERA and who gave up two runs over six innings in a victory over the Pirates last Wednesday.
Note that while he's 5-2 with a 3.23 ERA at Coors Field this year, Gray is a terrible 0-4 with a 5.43 ERA on the road.
The home side goes with Merrill Kelly, who is 5-7 with a 4.67 ERA and who gave up three runs over seven innings in a victory over the Giants in his last outing. Kelly's been decent of late, but note that Arizona has seen the total go OVER in seven of its last ten after three or more straight losses in a row.
Colorado has also seen the total eclipse the posted number in eight of its last 11 after playing to five or more straight UNDERS in a row.
For all the reasons listed above, the play is the OVER.
Good luck, NP
