The Saints Take on the Texans Saturday night in a pre-season game. Indeed, pre-season games are generally meaningless and sometimes bad teams will beat good teams for this reason but the gap between these two teams is so vast in critical areas that it seems highly unlikely the Texans will prevail.
Quarterback play is a massive indicator in terms of which team is likely to prevail in any football game but in the preseason it is about who has the better backup quarterback play.
The Saints have a much better situation in that they have the experienced and still somewhat able Andy Dalton and the young Ian Book, who was a heady and underrated QB that won a lot of games at Notre Dame as the primary backups to Starter Jameis Winston. The Starting quarterback for the Texans, Davis Mills might not be as good as Andy Dalton ever was and is probably about on par with Ian Book. As to the backups on Houston, Kyle Allen, Jeff Driskel, and Kevin Hogan – only Allen who is 7-10 as a starting quarterback for the Panthers and Commanders has seen any real playing time in the NFL and it wasn’t good. Overall, the Saints Roster is just much more talented on both sides of the ball and should be able to beat the lowly Texans easily.
