UNF is very talented and this game is huge for them. The A-Sun coaches like the Ospreys. They ranked them second in the preseason poll and selected three UNF players to the 10-man all-league team.
The heart of the offense revolves around three returning starters, all of whom were named to the league preseason team. Junior Beau Beech has started 60 of 64 games in two seasons. Sophomore Dallas Moore was named the A-Sun freshman of the year, starting every game and leading the team in minutes played. Sophomore Chris Davenport started all but one of the 32 games last year and led the team in field goal shooting (57 percent) and was second in rebounding (5.5 per game).
Where small college teams run into trouble against power conferences is size, but not here. The Ospreys will start four players at 6-6 or taller, including 6-11 center Romelo Banks and a pair at 6-8 in Beech and Davenport. Jalen Nesbitt (6-6 guard) will hold his own.
Depth can do smaller college teams in, but not here. Eight of the top 10 players from a year ago return and will be joined by their best outside shooter in Trent Mackey, who sat out last year after transferring in from UL-Monroe.
Though only the conference champ is likely to go to the Dance, UNF has a great chance to make a statement to the committee with a strong non-conference schedule. They are legitimate and will scare USC here.
