Rogers' 10* Frisco Bowl BOMBSHELL >> Wednesday!
(NCAAF) LA Tech vs. SMU,
Total: 71.00 | -110.00 Under
Result: Loss
The set-up: The inaugural Frisco Bowl (formerly known as the Miami Beach Bowl before being moved to Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas) will be played Wednesday night featuring 6-6 Louisiana Tech and 7-5 SMU. Adding to the intrigue is that after Chad Morris led SMU to its first bowl game since 2012 (Hawaii Bowl), he was hired at Arkansas on Dec. 6. Coaching SMU in this game will be Sonny Dykes, whose first head coaching job was at Louisiana Tech in 2010. The Mustangs had lost three straight versus UCF, Navy and Memphis but got a win versus Tulane in their last game to finish 7-5. The Bulldogs won their final two games to become bowl eligible at 6-6 and earn their fourth straight postseason bid under coach Skip Holtz. Louisiana Tech is one of only nine programs in the country that enter the postseason with three straight bowl wins. There were 81 teams eligible to earn a bowl game invitation, three more than the 78 total spots, and the Bulldogs ended up one of the fortunate 6-6 teams to be extended an invitation to the postseason.

Louisiana Tech: The Bulldogs are playing their third bowl in the past four years in North Texas after winning the Heat of Dallas Bowl in 2014 and the Armed Forces Bowl in Forth Worth last year. QB J'Mar Smith threw for 2,758 yards with 13 TDs and five INTs. WR Teddy Veal leads the team with 69 catches (5 TDs), while RB Scott has run for 937 yards (5.7 YPC) with eight TDs. La. Tech averages a middle-of-the-road 28.8 PPG (64th), while allowing 26.7 YPG (66th).

SMU: The Mustangs and the Oklahoma State Cowboys are the only FBS teams with a 3,000-yard passer (Ben Hicks 3,442 yards with 32 TDs and 9 INTs), a 1,000-yard rusher (Xavier Jones at 1, 019 yards . 6.0 YPC / 9 TDs) and two 1,000-yard receivers (Trey Quinn 106 catches & 12 TDs plus Courtland Sutton, 62 catches with 12 TDs). Considering the team's offensive weapons, it should come as no surprise that SMU has averaged 40.2 PPG (8th). The problem for SMU is a defense allowing 35.5 PPG (113th) on 486.7 YPG (122nd).

The pick:The Mustangs' defense allowed at least 31 points in its final five games, which included three straight losses before a last-second goal-line stand in the finale snapped the skid, as SMU won 41-38. Doing the math, SMU enters this game having allowed 42.4 PPG over its final five games .Things were looking pretty bleak for Louisiana Tech as recently as November 11, as they had lost four of five games. However, the Bulldogs get credit for storming back, as they outscored their opponents 62-27 in their last two outings. This should be a "fun game" and the Over is a 10* play.
