The Boston Bruins snapped a three game skid yesterday defeating the Penguins at Pittsburgh in overtime. They have a respectable 12-6-4 record at TD Garden for the season and will host a New Jersey Devils team that has struggled on the road all season long. All signs point toward a home win, and I think the price is justified.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Motivational/Situational - We're roughly halfway through the regular season and the Bruins are despite a poor first half holding down a play-off spot in the Eastern Conference. They know they have to up their game though, and chief executive officer Charlie Jacobs labeled the team's performance this season as "unacceptable" Monday. The response was a win against a stingy Penguins team, and I expect more of that from the Bruins moving forward.
2. Road Woes - The Devils have lost all of their last five away from home scoring only eight goals. Corey Schneider is 8-12-0 with a swollen 2.73 GAA on the road and the Devils have won only one of the last eight meetings in Boston.
3. X-Factor - Patrice Bergeron is leading the Bruins with 20 assists so far this season. He was playing the role of goalscorer last night though, finding the net twice against the Pens. This will be his 700th career game, and he must be poised to crown it with a spectacular performance.
Selection: This is a play on the Boston Bruins (5*)
