The 8-4 BYU Cougars will play the 9-3 Memphis Tigers in the Miami Beach Bowl on Monday December 22. Both teams closed out the season on lengthy winning streaks, but I was a little more impressed by BYU, as they were matched up against much better teams. Beating a Pac-12 team on the road in their final game was particularly impressive.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Christian Stewart - He was thrust into the starting role when Taysom Hill suffered a season ending injury against Utah State. He struggled at first, losing his first four starts, throwing for eight TDs and five INTs in those games. In his final four starts, he went 4-0 with 14 TDs and just 1 INT.
2. Memphis Defense - The Tigers put up some impressive numbers defensively, but they didn't really have to face any great QBs during the season. They did allow Brett Hundley to throw for 396 yards and three TDs in a loss to UCLA in Week 2.
3. X-Factor - The Cougars are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 neutral site games.
Selection: This is a play on the BYU Cougars (8*)
