Two of the league's most prolific offenses will clash at CONSOL Energy Center tonight as the Penguins are hosting the New York Islanders. The home team are coming into this contest as big favorites, and rightfully so, but I expect the Islanders to find the net a couple of times as well.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Top rated offenses - No team in the National Hockey League has a better goal per game average than the Penguins this season. They've found the net 64 times over 17 games with superstar Sidney Crosby playing a part in 26 of those with eight goals and 18 assists. The Islanders have not been too shabby on the offense either, showing the third best goal per game ratio in the league.
2. Special teams - The Islanders have the sixth worst penalty kill in the league conceding a goal on 75% of their penalties. The Penguins have the very best power play, scoring on more than 33% of their opportunities. Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz are tied with four other players for second place in the NHL with five power play goals each. Watch out for those two on the power play tonight.
3. X-factor - Only three of the last 10 meetings have seen the goal tally fail to climb over the total.
Selection: This is a play on NYI@PIT to go over the total (8*)
