The win-less Oakland Raiders are on the road at San Diego this week, and they are a significant dog getting a double-digit cushion. These two teams have already faced each other once this season in Oakland on Oct 2, a game the Chargers won 31-28. The venue might have changed for today's game, but I expect a similar result and the points to climb over the total.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. San Diego's D - The Chargers started the season 5-1 but have lost three straight since the win against Oakland. They have given up an average of 410.3 yards per game over this stretch, without forcing a single turnover. The Raiders played a close game with the Seahawks in their last road game, eventually falling short in a 30-24 loss. They should have good chances of scoring a similar amount of points today against a struggling Chargers D.
2. Situational/Motivational - San Diego is coming into this contest fully rested after a well needed bye week coming off a humiliating 37-0 loss at Miami. I expect them to look for redemption here, piling on as many points as they can.
3. X-Factor - The home team's offense could be boosted by the return of its star running back Ryan Mathews. The 27 year old who set a career high with 1,255 yards last year has been practicing all week after recovering from a knee injury.
Selection: This is a play on OAK@SD to go over the total (10*)
