The Pittsburgh Pirates are coming off back-to-back losses (including a 12-6 setback to the Mets last night), but note that they had won 11 straight prior to the skid. I expect the Buccos to get back to their winning ways Friday night.

Pittsburgh right-hander Ivan Nova (6-6, 4.28 ERA) is 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in five games against the Mets and 4-1 with a 3.40 ERA in eight starts since being reinstated from the DL (right ring finger sprain).

New York left-hander Jason Vargas (2-6, 8.60 ERA) meanwhile is fresh off the DL and last pitched on June 19 at Colorado when he gave up seven runs through 2 1/3 frames. The 35 year old veteran is 1-4 with a 10.96 ERA in six starts on the road this season.
