This is a 5* BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT on the Detroit Tigers.
Both of these starting pitchers come in having struggled of late, but Detroit will be able to wrap up the AL Central title tonight with a victory and when all is said and done, I look for the home side to find a way to deliver the goods. Detroit hasn't clinched a title at home since 1987 and turns to Rick Porcello (15-12, 3.31 ERA) who is 0-4 with a 4.88 ERA over his last five starts; note though that his best outing over that span came at Minnesota when he gave up two runs over eight innings while not factoring into the decision of a 4-3 setback on September 16th. A date vs. the Twins is just what the doctor ordered to get untracked though, Porcello is 1-0 with a repectable 4.05 ERA in three starts vs. them this year. And fortunately for Porcello, his counterpart has been an even bigger gas can, Anthony Swarzak (3-2, 4.52 ERA) will make his third start here in place of the injured Tommy Milone; most recently Swarzak was shelled for six runs off 11 hits in just 4 1/3's innings in an 8-6 loss to Detroit on September 15th, before then getting rocked for five runs and eight hits over 4 1/3's innings in a 7-2 loss to Cleveland on Sunday. I expect the sluggers of Detroit to take full advantage here and also give Porcello the slight nod on the hill; with those two factors backing us, it makes this a price that I can live with paying. Play on the TIGERS.
