AAA's 10* NATIONAL LEAGUE "ART OF WAR!"
(MLB) Washington vs. Atlanta,
Money Line: -125.00 Atlanta (Home)
Result: Win
This is a 10* ART OF WAR on the Atlanta Braves.

After wrapping up the NL East with their victory in Atlanta last night, I look for the Nationals to suffer a letdown here. The Braves are now on the verge of falling out of the Wild-Card race, yesterday's setback has them 5 1/2 games back of the Pirates for the second spot: "We've still got a chance," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said last night. "Now we've got to set our sights on a winning streak and maybe we can come in with a second wild card." Certainly the Braves are the more motivated team in this game, they'll look to get back into the winners circle in facing Gio Gonzalez (8-10, 3.79 ERA), who has been wildely inconsistent all season, although comes in having gone 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in three September starts. Note though that in his last outing he was shelled for four runs off six hits in his team's 4-3 loss to the Mets on Friday. And unfortunately for Gonzalez, a date vs. Atlanta is not what the doctor ordered to get untracked as he's 0-7 with a ballooned 5.42 ERA over his last nine starts vs. it (he's 0-2 against it this year, giving up eight runs over 10 2/3's innings). The home side counters with Alex Wood (10-10, 2.83 ERA) who is 3-2 with a very respectable 1.88 ERA over his last nine outings, working at least seven innings seven times. Most recently Wood gave up one run and four hits over seven frames, failing to earn a decision in his team's eventual 2-1 loss to the Rangers on Friday. Note that Wood has dominated the Nationals over the last two seasons, going 2-1 with a tiny 1.48 ERA. A great situational play, combined with what I think to be a superior starter, coupled with an extremely fair price, all signs point to a comfortable ATLANTA victory.
