This is an 8* SUPER-SHOWDOWN on South Carolina.
A very important game here for both teams, I think the home side keeps it close enough though to at the very least sneak in through the back door for the comfortable ATS cover. This is a contest which will determine early control of the SEC East. Ultimately though in my opinion, South Carolina has a few motivational and situational factors working in its favor and I think these will turn out to be the difference in the outcome here. The Gamecocks would stumble out of the gates with an embarrasing 52-28 setback to Texas A&M in their opener, only to then bounce back with a somewhat lacklustre 33-23 win over East Carolina last week. Note that South Carolina is 0-2 ATS this year. But the Gamecocks will certainly be motivated today, they play with revenge here as Georgia beat them 41-30 at home as a 3.5 point favorite last season. From a situational standpoint, I think this sets up as a natural letdown spot for Georgia, it would get its 45-21 revenge over Clemson in its opening week, but then would take a bye last Saturday; while SC has had a couple of games in a row to work some things out, Georgia has been in neutral for two weeks. I think Georgia RB Todd Gurley and QB Hutson Mason will have their hands full in this hostile environment led by senior tackle JT Surratt. The Gamecocks will look to control the ball on offense, expect to see a heavy dose of RB Mike Davis who had 101 yards and two major scores in the victory over East Carolina. South Carolina has won 19 of its last 20 in front of the home town crowd, the lone loss came two weeks ago, but with the strong motivational and situational factors on its side today, combined with the fact that Georgia is just 3-6 ATS in its last nine on the road, there's no question in my mind that the sharp wager in this contest is definitely on the home side; grab as many points as you can, play on SOUTH CAROLINA.
