Rookie Christian Bergman (2-2, 5.23 ERA) toes the rubber in the second game of this three game set for the visitors. Bergman earned his second win of the season after holding San Francisco to two runs on nine hits over six innings in his last outing. Relevant stats though show that the rookie has been a little lucky this year as he has allowed opponents a .312 batting average. The Mets will start a rookie as well in Jacob DeGrom (7-6, 2.79 ERA), who pitched well on Wednesday, limiting the Marlins to one run over six innings, unfortunate to be tagged with a no-decision in his team's eventual 4-3 win. Losses and no-decisions have been rare for DeGrom though as Wednesday marked only his second no-decision since July 8th (DeGrom is 6-1 since then). DeGrom's numbers speak for themselves, his ERA remains below 3.00, he has a 1.20 WHIP and a 112/39 K/BB ratio as well. The Mets snapped the Rockies four game winning streak yesterday, dropping them to just 20-50 in road contests this season. Conversely, the Mets have won seven of ten and will be highly motivated with a slim shot at a wild card still. DeGrom has been very good at Met Life field with a stingy 1.68 ERA over 53 innings and I think is worth the price of admission in this spot.
