We base our picks on many different things, but this particular one is based almost entirely on the starting pitching matchup. Despite Coors Field being the "Great Equalizer" for pitchers, this is still a much bigger mismatch in our opinion than what the oddsmakers are trying to lead us to believe. Seth Lugo (11-2, 2.17 ERA, 1.03 WHIP) gets the call for the Royals, while Austin Gomber (1-5, 4.72, 1.32) counters for the home side. Lugo has been "lights out" on the road this year, going 7-0 with a 1.94 ERA. Gomber is 0-1 with a 3.94 ERA at home this year, but we're still giving a big nod to Lugo, who will look to close out the first half with one last gem.
