Yesterday marked a first in the 2021 MLB season as the Reds fell to the Marlins. Cincy had previously been 5-0 vs. Miami this year and was 11-1 against them since the start of 2019. We had the Reds when they won 6-0 here on Friday. We think they’ll bounce back today. Today’s starting pitching matchup looks to be in their favor. Tyler Mahle has been just tremendous when he starts on the road for the Reds. He is 7-1 with a 1.92 ERA. A five-run first inning by the Marlins is what doomed the Reds on Saturday. With Mahle starting this afternoon, that’s not going to happen again. But Jesus Luzardo has had his problems for Miami and he’s the starter more likely to struggle today. In his last three starts, Luzardo has a 9.94 ERA. It’s been that kind of year for the lefty. He has a 7.51 ERA overall and 6.69 ERA at home. Yesterday was only the third win for the Marlins in their past 12 games. The Reds are holding on to the NL’s second Wild Card right now and thus can’t afford another loss to a last place opponent.
