Tonight will be the head coaching debut for Atlanta’s Arthur Smith. He knows the opponent well as he was offensive coordinator for Tennessee each of the last two years. During those two years on the Titans’ sideline, Smith oversaw a tremendous transformation with Ryan Tannehill. Tennessee ranked third in the NFL last season in total offense. Smith has said tonight is “extremely important” in terms of evaluating his new players. Helping him out is the fact he likely won’t be seeing too many of his old players. The Titans have had several starters miss practice time this week due to injuries. Former Falcons WR Julio Jones is not likely to play either as his workload has been rather minimal during camp. This game being at home adds a little extra motivation for Smith as he looks to get players and fans to buy into the new regime. The Falcons weren’t as bad as their record last year. They lost a lot of close games and Smith should easily top last season’s win total. Rookie TE Kyle Pitts going against a young Titans secondary may yield a big play early. Tennessee also has issues along the offensive line right now. Atlanta will want this one more. Play on ATLANTA
