If you want to know why both San Diego and Arizona are coming off losses, look no further than the respective bullpens. Back on Wednesday, the Padres had a 3-1 lead entering the bottom of the ninth in Oakland. They lost 5-4. What happened to the Diamondbacks yesterday afternoon was even worse. They held a 4-0 lead entering the ninth. They too lost 5-4 in extra innings. Somebody will dust themselves off the mat and win today. It’s probably going to be the Padres, but they’ll have to score some runs to do so. Their starting pitcher (Randy Weathers) is off a season-worst effort where he was charged with eight runs in four innings. San Diego’s last five games have all gone Over. So have eight of the last nine. Weathers being on the mound for a matchup with Arizona figures to keep the trend going. No team has allowed more runs this season than the Diamondbacks. One of the biggest offenders has been Friday’s starter Caleb Smith. He is 1-8 with a 6.31 ERA. His lone start vs. SD this season saw him give up four runs and he lasted only three innings. Smith is particularly bad on the road. He’s 0-5 with a 9.00 ERA and 1.75 WHIP. This should turn into a high-scoring affair and go Over pretty quickly. Play on OVER
