The lower seed (Texas Tech) is the one favored in this Big 12 Quarterfinal. But the Red Raiders also enter the Tournament as the colder team. They lost their last four regular season games, though two of those were to Baylor and Kansas. They also lost to Texas, who is the opponent Thursday. The Longhorns won and covered five straight (four of those coming as underdogs) before dropping the final regular season game in embarrassing fashion (81-59 as a 4-point favorite) at home to Oklahoma State. The ‘Horns badly need good showing in this tourney or they run the risk of not making the big one next week. They won as 11.5 point underdogs in Lubbock when they faced Texas Tech two weeks ago. So a win here is certainly within the realm of possibility. But the more predictable outcome is a low-scoring affair. It was a 68-58 game in Lubbock and a 62-57 game when the teams met in Austin earlier in the year. Texas Tech is noted as being one of the better defensive teams in the country (top 10 in efficiency) but Texas allows a similar number of points/game.
