Francisco Liriano has an opportunity to get back at his former team in this one. Marcus Stroman returned from injury and threw a great outing against the Angels on the road, but we think he'll suffer a predictable letdown here. Liriano (3-3, 3.94 ERA) gave up three runs off four hits with three strikeouts over four innings in a loss to the Tigers on Saturday. It was in fact Liriano's first start back from a stint on the DL as well and the upsides were that his fastball was on par to his season average and he'd also go on to induce eight swinging strikes, both positive peripheral numbers which point to further progression. Stroman (0-5, 6.80) gave up six hits while striking out five over five scoreless in a no-decision to the Angels last weekend. So which Stroman shows up on Friday night? The one that struggled to a 7.71 ERA over his first seven outings, or the one we saw in his return from injury? Or something in between? It's hard to say exactly, but we will point out that he's still 0-2 with an 8.80 ERA in front of the home town crowd this season. We think it's a great spot to pull the trigger on the underdog.
