Neither veteran has been sharp so far this year, but home field advantage will prove to be the difference in the end. The Tigers hand the ball to Jordan Zimmermann (1-0, 5.81 ERA) who actually comes in off his best outing of the year, going seven scoreless in an unfortunate no-decision against the Rays on Monday. Starts like that have been few and far between for the right-hander the last couple of years though, and note that he was just 3-6 with a 5.53 ERA on the road last season. The home side counters with Jason Hammel (0-3, 4.91) who comes in off an outing to forget against the Red Sox on Monday, giving up eight runs off eight hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. Previous to that though Hammel had allowed just seven earned runs over 27 innings. The moral of the story on this selection? Don't be too quick to judge after one great/poor performance. We're banking on Zimmermann having a predictable letdown here after his gem, while clearly Hammel will be eager to finally get into the winners circle and atone for his recent poor effort. This one has blowout written all over it, play on the ROYALS.
