We feel this line could/should easily be a lot larger. The visitors hand the ball to ace Max Scherzer (4-1, 1.36 ERA), who was 16-6 with a 2.51 ERA last season. Scherzer most recently allowed one run off four hits over six innings in a 5-2 victory over LA on Friday, striking out nine and walking three. To go along with his sparkling 1.36 WHIP, Scherzer also sports an elite 0.76 WHIP over 33 innings to go along with an unreal 47:7 K:BB. The home side counters with the erratic Jeff Samardzija (1-0, 0.00), who looked great in his first start of the year against the Angels, allowing no runs off two hits over six innings. Samardzija was just 9-15 with a 4.42 ERA though last year and clearly the sample size is just too small to make an accurate call of where he's at right now. But the same can't be said of Scherzer, who comes into this one on top form. As mentioned off the top, we believe this line could/should be much larger. Great value, play on the NATIONALS.
