The former Cardinal usually is effective when he's been healthy. Rarely, though, was he healthy with St. Louis. Now he's 100 percent and in great form with a 1.23 ERA during his past four starts.

The Mets have a losing record versus southpaws and also a losing road record.

Getting the start for New York is Seth Lugo, who has been out all season recovering from an elbow injury. He makes his season debut after posting a 4.58 ERA in four rehab stats. He hasn't started in eight days.

Lugo is rusty and likely to be on a pitch count. The Mets' bullpen is shaky.
