The Bowling Green Falcons are on the road to take on the #25 Michigan Wolverines. Bowling Green was 21-10 last season. Michigan posted a 19-12 record in Juwan Howard’s first season as coach. The Wolverines are 9-3 all-time against the Falcons and have won the last three meetings.
Bowling Green won 21 games last season and finished 12-6 in the MAC, second in both the East Division and the conference. They ended the season with three straight losses. They bring back three-fifths of their starting lineup. Last season, the offense put up 74.5 points a game. and on the defensive end, they gave up 72.9. The offense is led by Justin Turner with 18.8 points and he grabbed 4.6 rebounds a game. Daeqwon Plowden added 12.7 points and 8.5 rebounds.
Michigan was up and down all season under Howard and finished 19-12 overall and 10-10 in the conference last season. They started the season 7-0, then lost eight of 12, turned it around to win seven of eight before losing three of their final four games. The Wolverines return three double-digit scorers from last year's team. The Wolverines offense put up 75 points a game and on the defensive end, they are giving up 68.3 points. Isaiah Livers averaged 12.9 points plus four rebounds a game and is the leading scorer returning from last season. Franz Wagner added 11.6 points and 5.6 rebounds with Eli Brooks chipping in 10.6 points and 3.7 rebounds. Mike Smith transfers in from Columbia where he averaged 22.8 points and 4.5 assists. Chaundee Brown transferred from Wake where he put up 12.1 points and grabbed 6.5 rebounds. Brown was declared immediately eligible earlier this month and will be in the mix here.
Bowling Green will be a contender in the MAC this season. Michigan is going to have to be better when it comes to shooting from the perimeter and on the glass. Michigan has a very good freshman class to work in the lineup. Eastern will stay around for a half but the Wolverines talent will pull away at the end.
