This a 10* NON-CONF. TOTAL OF THE WEEK on the UNDER Vanderbilt/Northern Illinois.
Both teams have played to a couple of high-scoring games already to open the season, but I'm expecting those trends to end here in Week 3.
Vanderbilt 2-1 SU and it's seen the total go OVER the number in all three of its games so far. Most recently it feel 45-25 at home to Wake Forest.
Northern Illinois is 1-1, and it's seen both of its contests also eclipse the posted number. That includes its 38-38 loss at Tusla in its most recent matchup.
Note that Vandy has so far allowed under four yards per carry this season. Northern Illinois does have a good arial attack with QB Rocky Lombardi, but the Huskies are at their best when their ground game is established.
Northern Illinois has also struggled with penalties, as well as having third down problems.
Mike Wright has thrown for 426 yards, six touchdowns and one interception so far for the Commodores, and while I do expect him to have some success, Vanderbilt will also be out to establish the run throughout (Re’Mahn Davis and Wright have combined for 533 rushing yards this year.)
I'm expecting some sloppy play down the stretch and for this game to ultimately fall UNDER the number once the final whistle sounds.
