This is a 10* NON-CONFERENCE TOTAL OF THE MONTH on the UNDER Arkansas State/Memphis.
These are two teams which play little defense and like to push the pace from start to finish, but with only one week to prepare, I think these offenses will stall down the stretch.
Both teams are coming off big seasons. Memphis was 12-2 and Arkansas State was 8-5.
Blake Anderson enters his seventh year as head coach for the Red Wolves. Layne Hatcher started nine games as QB last year and finished with a 27:10 TD:INT. Arkansas State's defense catches a break here as Memphis' star RB has opted out of the season.
Senior QB Brady White has three starters returning to his starting line, but the strength of Memphis in the early going is going to be its defense, which held opponents to just 24.4 PPG last year. And note most of that unit returns.
The Mustangs' passing game will be successful and both teams are going to score some points.
But not nearly enough to go OVER this gigantic number. The combination of little practice time and the other factors I've listed above all add up to make the UNDER the correct call in my opinion!
